Y.A.N.A (You Are Not Alone) is a free daily telephone reassurance service which allows older adults to find comfort and security knowing that someone will be checking on them. The goal of Y.A.N.A. is to help their clients feel confident and comfortable continuing to live independently.
Members of the Clearlake Police Department Volunteers in Policing make regular phone calls to Lake County seniors to check their welfare. Volunteers keep logs to verify that contact is made and note any special circumstances or information. For example, the Y.A.N.A. client may indicate that he/she will not be available for calls on a particular day.
If the Y.A.N.A. client does not respond, the volunteer will make several attempts to get reach them. In the event a volunteer is unable to reach a Y.A.N.A. client, local law enforcement will be dispatched to check the client’s welfare.
The Y.A.N.A. Program has been credited with saving the lives of many of our senior citizens who live alone and have fallen or become ill.
