The Personal Marijuana Cultivation Ordinance No. 197-2017 is a result of several months of work by a Council Ad Hoc Committee with various views on the cultivation issue.  This ordinance was reviewed by the Planning Commission and approved by the City Council on April 27, 2017.

Applications for a marijuana cultivation permit are available at Clearlake Police Department during business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.  The application is also available on the City website.  The permit may be obtained at any time during the year and is good during the entire calendar year in which is it issued.  The cost of the marijuana cultivation permit is $250.00.

Grow sites must be enclosed within a single, square, fenced area no larger than 10' by 10'. There must be a permanent legal residence on the parcel. The parcel must have a permanent water source. Other requirements and restrictions apply; please review the application for details.

Proposition 64 allows up to six plants to be legally grown inside a residence.  Under city ordinance, no more than six plants total are allowed to be grown on any property, whether indoors or outdoors, and a permit is required to cultivate marijuana outdoors for personal use only.

Selling marijuana cultivated for personal use is illegal.  Commercial cannabis cultivation requires additional state and local permits.
